It's not as far-off of an idea as it sounds, and it might become a reality for students at one university in Europe. Loughborough University is the first in Europe to explore holographic technology to bring in guest lecturers for classes. It's made possible by tech company, Proto, which manufactures boxes to project holograms into. It's the same tech that brought dead or retired musicians back to the stage. Proto founder, David Nussbaum, said, “Proto has the technology to project an image of Stephen Hawking, or anybody, and make it look like he’s really there." The LA-based company has worked with BT, IBM, and H&M in Stockholm to make interactive product displays.
