Rowling’s first Harry Potter book sold over 120M copies, there were concerns Rowling’s demand for an all-British cast in the movie wouldn’t resonate with American audiences. Nevertheless, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone would go on to gross over $1B at the box office worldwide. There would be seven movie and book sequels to follow, in addition to an empire of toys, games, merchandise, and even theme parks.
